Change a Life - Save a Pet
The Kankakee County Humane Foundation (KCHF) is a 501(c) (3) non- profit organization that is a no-kill animal shelter. Since 1963 the Foundation has rescued unwanted, neglected and abandoned dogs and cats in the Kankakee County area.
You Can Donate to Help
We operate as a non-profit, no kill shelter, foster, and adoption agency for dogs and cats. The Foundation is entirely dependent on memberships and private donations and does not receive any tax revenue or public funds. Your kind and generous gift can help us continue our important work.
Every Pet Needs a Home - Adopt or Foster
There isn't any way we can shelter all of the pets in our area who need help. Please consider offering your home to adopt or foster a cat or dog. The Foundation home fosters our puppies, kittens, some dogs and cats exposing them to in-home living, manners and socialization. Of course the goal for every pet we serve is to help them find their FURever home! Please - join us!
You Can Help - Volunteer
The life blood of any non-profit is its volunteers. The gift of your time can be a high or as flexible as you would like, and we have all kinds of positions available. We would love to have to have you join us!

With Regret

February 8, 2017. It is with the utmost sadness and broken hearts that we let you know that we lost Sawyer on the operating table today. We knew there was a risk due to the heart worm and the recent accident but were hopeful that with the few days healing and his age he would pull through the surgery. He died of cardiac arrest despite the attempts of the staff to revive him.

We so appreciate the outpouring of support that Sawyer received whether it was well wishes, prayers, donations or offers to foster. You have all been incredible and we are so thankful for your continued support through this difficult time.

The monies donated will be used to offset the medical costs incurred. Thank you again and please say a prayer for Sawyer. We know he will be waiting for us all at the Rainbow Bridge since he was loved by so many.

Mascot is an 8 Month old orange tabby! He is a playful boy who lives to run and have fun! He is a lovely boy waiting for his forever home!
