Change a Life - Save a Pet
The Kankakee County Humane Foundation (KCHF) is a 501(c) (3) non- profit organization that is a no-kill animal shelter. Since 1963 the Foundation has rescued unwanted, neglected and abandoned dogs and cats in the Kankakee County area.
You Can Donate to Help
We operate as a non-profit, no kill shelter, foster, and adoption agency for dogs and cats. The Foundation is entirely dependent on memberships and private donations and does not receive any tax revenue or public funds. Your kind and generous gift can help us continue our important work.
Every Pet Needs a Home - Adopt or Foster
There isn't any way we can shelter all of the pets in our area who need help. Please consider offering your home to adopt or foster a cat or dog. The Foundation home fosters our puppies, kittens, some dogs and cats exposing them to in-home living, manners and socialization. Of course the goal for every pet we serve is to help them find their FURever home! Please - join us!
You Can Help - Volunteer
The life blood of any non-profit is its volunteers. The gift of your time can be a high or as flexible as you would like, and we have all kinds of positions available. We would love to have to have you join us!
/Pet of the Month

July's Pet of the Month will be Lady! Here's what we have on Lady, her own words of course...

'I'm a 3 year old beauty! I'm a terrier mix, who is up to date on shots! I made a long journey from Tennessee all the way to KCHF and now here I am, patiently waiting for a home! I was scheduled to be euthanized, but my new friends said NO WAY! And went and swooped me up! I'm a super friendly girl & my friends think I will like other dogs once I get used to being here. But to be honest, we can skip the getting used to be here part and you can just fill out an application and take me home! '🐾
/Chance

Hey everyone! I'm Chance! I am a 4 year old, neutered male. My owners brought me in because they didn't have time for me anymore.

The shelter staff had been very patient with me, but that just isn't the place for me unfortunately. I am very stressed and had to be taken to an emergency vet today to get much needed medicine for my belly.  I am staying with the great people at Midwest Animal Hospital for a few days so they can make sure I'm 100% healthy.

How can you help me? Well I really would love to go to a permanent home, but if that's not the case, a foster would be awesome too! I am VERY scared and stressed, so the less kids around me to start, the better, even though I grew up with 3 kids.

I need someone with lots of patience and love. Please help me relax a bit!... maybe even on your couch!
